The Risk Management Authority is a Scottish public body, established in 2005 by the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2003. Its functions relate to the risk assessment of offenders whose liberty presents a risk to the public at large and minimising risk in respect of a small number of serious violent and sexual offenders who may be or have been sentenced to the Order for Lifelong Restriction. The Authority is to be the recognised expert authority on risk assessment and risk management and will: *develop policy and carry out research into the risk assessment and risk management of offenders whose liberty presents a risk to the public at large *set standards for, and issue guidance to those involved in the assessment and management of risk *accredit practitioners and risk management plans and monitor risk management plans for those offenders who receive an Order for Lifelong Restriction sentence from the High Court of Justiciary.
